Is it time to take my elderly car to the vet :(

My beautiful cat is 17. He's gone from being a dopey, fluffy laid back cat to suddenly ageing rapidly over the past 6 months.

He doesn't meow anymore, he makes this weird low noise which I don't quite know how to describe. He's very slow and is puking up his food most times. I try to feed him little amounts often but he's always sat where I keep the food, almost like he's "forgotten " he's been fed. He is obviously hungry as he brings up his food so it's like catch 22.

I noticed he's losing some of his fur too in places and getting frail 😕

I'm worried the vet will want to put him to sleep, which obviously I know is inevitable but it's still so so sad for me and my dc. My dd cried yesterday at the thought of him not being here, she is on 10.

Oh bless him. Sounds like it may be nearing that time. I would take him to the vet, they might find a way to make him more comfortable and keep that food down, or decide it is time to go to sleep. If they make the latter decision then at least you'll know it's the best thing to do.

Hope your daughter will be OK Flowers

I am so sorry to hear this. It's the worst losing any beloved family pet but to see them unwell is hard to handle. I think it sounds like it's about time to visit the vets. You are prepares for the outcome, you could maybe enjoy the last few days bedore taking him to the vet. Make some last memories take plenty of photos. You get animal friendly ink to print his paws for your child to keep. Its never going to be easy but maybe the vet will provide something to make him comfortable and help with eating etc. Let us know what happens. I really do feel for you at this so difficult time.
