Cat leaves little lumps of poo

My cat is around 12 years old and since moving house he keeps on leaving little smudges of poo on everything he sits on. In the whole time I've had him he's always had soft stools and we've tried different diets, lastly he is really hard to get to the vets as he always poos liquid in the box and wont let anyone touch him. I don't know what to do

I know puréed pumpkin is really good for helping dogs in that department. Have a look into whether cats can have it. You can buy it in tins.

I will give it a go however he is a really fussy eater :\
