Help. Neurotic female cat pulling her hair out after birth of my 2nd daughter ...

Does anyone have any experience of how to pacify a fairly neurotic female cat, nearly 7 years old, who has been getting more and more demanding since our children were born? Since my 2nd daughter was born 10 months ago, Solly has been slowly pulling her hair out on her legs and belly and has large bald patches which are getting bigger by the week. The vet says she has to take anti-histermine pills along with herbal anti-anxiety drops which didn't work, plus we tried very expensive pheromone difuser which did nothing. She won't take the pills, we try hiding them in everything from butter to cream to broccoli (don't ask!) to luxury cat food; and if we try putting the pill in her mouth she'll sit for up to 20 mins on our lap while we stroke her throat to get her to swallow and ask soon as she jumps down she spits the pill straight out again! She's currently on Animal Emergency Essense, which isn't really working and I'm worried that the last resort is one of those large lamp shade type of collars which will probably send her over the edge ... we don't want to re-house her, we try to give her as much attention as we can but with two children it's hard to give her the time she needs. Any advice ... help ...! Thanks, L

I used to have a cat that did this after break up with my fiance. Took cat to the vet and he was put on anti-depressents.

I managed to get crushed tablets into Merlin by putting them in katalax furball treatment and smearing it on his paws - that was 7 days of hell and splats of katalax over the kitchen. Perhaps she really would be happier rehomed?????

Thanks for replying. Just couldn't rehome her ... she's been with me since she and her sister were abandonned by side of road, and I took them on. She's with me now, walking on the keyboard! Will try the katalax, haven't heard of it before ... plus talk to vet re anti-depressants. Will update on any progress .. many thanks. L
