On Saturday just gone, I woke up to see my cat was very sleepy / not jumping around and I knew something was wrong.

Took her to the vets in my local town - told them I believe she had been poisoned - as there was sick in her bed with full food chunks in that wasn't the one I feed her -

They took her out of the carrier for the whole of one minute, she was barely moving, couldn't stand - they sent me to another vet in a different town

She had bloods done, she was also put on fluids for a few hours and then put Down

I Took her body home to bury her.

I told her instantly I had no insurance and she said we'll worry about that later.. I was pretty distraught so I wasn't thinking enough to question

Had a bill of 250

I was expecting more of 150?

Does this seem expensive or not?

She had blood test, warm fluids then put to sleep

Ask them for a breakdown, but it sounds roughly correct. About £40 ish for a consultation x2, blood tests I think are around £60-80, PTS about £60 I think, plus the drip. Only going off the top of my head from when my own cat was ill then PTS just before Christmas.

Very sorry for your loss btw, how heartbreaking Flowers.

Thanks for the reply :)

I just didn't think they should charge for 2 consultations when they barely looked her - just told me to go elsewhere.

Anyway, just going to pay it and hope it doesn't happen again! Keeping my other cats indoors now, I don't feel safe letting them out :( I feel even worse because I made her go outside the day before, for a Hour ( I like to put them all outside when I'm ccleaning) and keep thinking, if only Id have kept her in! It must have been one of my neighbours as she never ventures further than my front garden / back garden and adjoining neighbours :(

But also feel abit guilty keeping my cats indoors ( the other two enjoy being out) it was only the one who was poisoned who I had to 'make' go out :( cant win!

Sorry to hear about your cat.
Why did the first vet send you to another?
Don't feel guilty, you couldn't have known what would happen just by putting the cat out.

If you feel your cat was poisoned intentionally by using food, you should go to the police.

I am so sorry to hear about your cat.

Please don't feel guilty you didn't administrator poison. You did something very ordinary.

I'm a vet nurse. Sounds like you were sent from your initial vet practice to one equipped for out of hours work or hospitalisation where they could do more tests or keep her in if necessary. It's possible it was antifreeze poisoning not necessarily intentional but it tastes sweet to kitties so they lap at it and makes them really sick really quick Sad so sorry for your loss x

..However they should not have charged you second consultation charge if that was the case.

Get a breakdown, but bloods are quite pricey, and consultation fees can be a surprise. So sorry for your loss, sending hugs x

Sorry about your cat, but that bill is expensive. Prices where I live are consultation 20, bloods 30-40, xray 35, pts 20. Seems the vet you went to knew how to charge.
