New puppy and cats not impressed, what to do ??

Got a 10 week old Jack Russell and we already had a 2.6 yr old cat. She is very very unimpressed with him.

He keeps chasing her the minute she comes in and has started to try and nip her. I am worried she just won't bother coming back soon.

Is there anything I can do to ease the tension ?? I have tried telling him NO, removing him or removing her but it's made no difference.

I know he is probably only playing, but she doesn't see it like that.

Hi nutcracker. We got our JR x Yorkie pup 10 days ago and the cats have got used to him already.
To begin with they were very wary and we didn't see much of them as they were hiding upstairs out of the way. Now they are happy to sit next to him for a cuddle on my knee and while I wouldnt say they are mates I'm sure it wont be long before they are. Our pup isn't so interested in chasing them although he's nipped them a couple of times and got a bat on the nose for his trouble.

Maybe if the cat swats him a few times he will learn its not worth the bother. Could you put him in a crate and let the cat have a good look at him without being attacked?

How long have you had your puppy?

We have had the puppy since thursday night so not long at all.

Things seem to be improving between them today, the cat is starting to stand up for herself instead of running off so hopefully the dog will soon get fed up pf her swiping at him and he'll leave her alone.

Just remember to make sure that the cat still gets plenty of affection and doesn't get ousted from it's favourite spots.
