does anyone know how much a vet charges to put a dog to sleep?

Our beautiful gsd's hips have gone and she has a suspected cancerous lump on her leg. She is 10 years old and it is devastating to think we have to part with her, she's been the perfect family dog but it's not fair now. I have been putting it off as I recently had a baby but now it appears to be hurting her as for the last few days she has struggled to get out of her bed and cries when she does. Any advice would be appreciated. This is devastating for all of us :-(

Teeny I am so sorry to hear your sad news I hope you are ok. I don't know about dogs but I had to put my 17 year old cat to sleep and vet fee was £40. I chose to have an individual cremation which was £120 extra but this was optional. Good luck

Really sorry to read your post - its such a horrible time.

We had our beloved lab put to sleep recently and the vet fee was around £80, which included the vet and a vet nurse visiting our home.

BigDog was PTS at home last year. They came to the house then took him away afterwards. I also had him cremated and he came back in a nice box (currently on the bookcase next to me). Total was around £100 I think.

It was the best death he could have had. Quick, comfortable and in his bed. I fed him sausages as he was sedated, then he just drifted off.

Heartbreaking to have to make that decision but absolutely the right one.

Prices will vary but it is based on weight, the bigger the animal the more it costs.
But the actual euthanasia isn't that expensive,.its what you decide to do after that costs.
Individual cremation, and having the ashes back is a very expensive option (100's), but you can choose just a straightforward cremation with nothing back and that is much cheaper.

Hi Teeny my husband and I are vets. So sorry to hear that your dog is struggling so much. It would cost approximately £120 for a euthanasia and cremation.at our practices. If you are concerned about the cost please just phone your vet anyway, none of us would let her suffer. Or you could check whether you are near a PDSA hospital as they will treat your animals for a donation if you are eligible for their help.

Hello I had my dog pts at home in October it was 77.It was very peaceful and im so glad it was at home.So sorry you are having to make this decision.

It really depends on the vet. Ours was £70 for our large 10 year old labrador when he was too sick to even eat. It was heart breaking, but we were not going to let him starve himself to death.
Its hard, but sometimes it really is the kindest thing to do.
