He says he wants to keep it as a PET!!!? Am I missing something here? Who in their right mind wants to keep a filthy slug in a shell in the house? It's not cute, it can't do tricks and just eeew! FFS, WWYD?

Who has brought it home?

BestestBrownies · 15/07/2012 17:28

is it one of those african land snails? if so they're disease riddled like terapins! yuck!

y'cant even "accidently" leave the tank lid off cause it'ld take em 4 weeks to escape probably!

Oh and they have about 500 babies at a time, so if its fully grown get rid before you get a surprise and then have to rehome 501 of the things

please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks it's fucking bonkers behaviour for a grown man. He's on the 'net researching how to look after it now

It's weird. My brother is the same. Has all manner of stinking animals in his house. He gets upset when one of his minging stick insects dies. I bloody ask you.

BestestBrownies · 15/07/2012 17:38

I kind of understand that Yellow, but we have no other pets and have never had any in the 10yrs we've been together. He just randomly brought it home after finding it outside, the freak.

and after I've spent the day cleaning the bloody flat as well. Grrr!

Where's he keeping it?

Herrena · 15/07/2012 17:44

Snails, slugs and the like are riddled with Salmonella. Tell him that!

They're riddled with the type of Salmonella that very very rarely infects humans though (Salmonella enterica subspecies 2 & 4, as opposed to Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica). Don't tell him that bit :)

Cheriefroufrou · 15/07/2012 17:46

yeah that is wierd! I had pet flies onces (for a few hours till they died in the jam jar) - but I was FOUR!

BestestBrownies · 15/07/2012 18:21

exactly! I can't help thinking it's some lame attempt to get my attention. I only mentioned a few days ago that my 3yo mindee had picked up a snail and taken it with us to playgroup, in a 'how cute but also gross and quite funny' way. Is he jealous? Does he wish I was his mum?!? Seriously considering walking round with the salt and oh-so-accidentally tripping over and spilling it on the disgusting slimy thing. He's put it on my clean kitchen table in a tupperware container with some cucumber and beetroot leaves.

OP, please can we have an update on what happened? I'm really curious now. Did you keep it?
