Hi,
Just posted this in wrong place, put in Bereavement, hope no one is offended there. My best friend is in a dreadful state, she is not married, no children and the love of her life is her creatures, she has allsorts! Her beloved favourite, Potato, a sweet 10 yr old Jack Russell, escaped last Mon with Been another Jack Russell. She lives in a very remote part of Cornwall, totally surrounded by farm land. She has always feared that one day this would happen, one would not come back. It looks likely that Potato is stuck in a hole, rabbit or badger, and is now probably dead. She could have been killed by a badger. Nicky has spent every day combing the area, even hired a heat sensing camera, but sadly no news. I think it is inevitable now that Potato is not coming home, I dread phoning her tonight as she just can`t stp crying, my three are also terribly upset, Potato was everyones favourite. Does anyone know of a sweet poem that may be suitable?

I do know a poem about a terrier but I'm not sure it is suitable. On the one hand I think it is intended to be comforting (ie that you will meet again someday) but on the other it always makes me cry my eyes out! You'd have to decide.

Dreaming of his master's voice.

High in the courts of heaven today
A little dog-angel waits.
With other angels he will not play,
But he sits alone at the gates.
"For I know my master will come" says he,
"And when he comes he will call for me"

And his master on Earth far down below
As he sits in his fireside chair,
Forgets sometimes and whistles low
For his terrier that is not there.
And the little dog-angel cocks his ears
And dreams that his master's voice he hears.

And I know when at length his master waits
Outside in the dark and cold,
For the hound of death to open the gates
That lead to the courts of gold,
His little terrier's welcoming bark
Will comfort his soul in the shivering dark.

Actually it's very strange. I learnt this poem years ago after I saw it in Horse and Hound. I've just googled it to find out if I've got it right and found out that it is only part of another poem with some bits changed! It's by Noah M. Holland (A little dog angel) if you want to look it up, but I still prefer this version.

I'm very sorry about Potato. It's always worse losing a pet when you don't know for sure what happened.

Hi,
Running two threads here! Still cannot click on the links, cannot figure out why. No news of Potato, this is day 8, so sadly I fear she is dead, Nicky just cannot stop crying, feel so sorry for her. She will be missed by everyone, such a sweet little dog who gave us all such joy.
