Fleas in the house, cat recently died, do I still have to treat the house or will they just not survive without a host??

My cat died last week and we have been bitten by fleas since, and I read somewhere that they cannot survive on human blood. Does this mean that they will go away or do I still need to fumigate the house? Such a pain and so expensive (but worth it if only way to get rid of the buggers) but just wondered if I hold off treating the house for a while they will naturally die and i wont feel so disgusted by it all!!
I have a feeling that sounds a bit too good to be true, but hopefully someone will know.........
Thanks

We had no cat but had fleas in the carpet that had to be treated. Sorry!

Get indorex spray, a can or two of it will do your whole house. I have three cats and have used this, it works really well.

I think I would have to try and get rid of them in your place.

Thought as much. Sigh. Thanks for the replies, and if anyone out there thinks it is possible to skip the house spraying thing, please say!! Pref before I start tomorrow!!

A random suggestion, but another cat may help? The fleas will live happily on the cat and stop biting humans.

without the cat they will get more and more hungry, and will jump off the carpet and bite your ankles when you walk by.

Lots of hoovering will get them up, and you can get a spray for carpets and soft furnishings. Wash blankets and bedding (including yours if cat slept on it). Why didn't you use flea drops on the cat?

oops, sorry, didn't notice how old it is Blush
