Okay, this is a desperate plea, my 'friend' says the smell of her piggies is making her sick and they need to be rehomed, she has asked at pets at home but they have no room, she has asked on facebook. No one wants them. Thats all the trying she has done! She is now saying they are going to be released over the common tonight! SHIT! My DH will go balistic if i take in anymore pets....running total of about 25, various animals, lots of vet fees and high food bills as it is so i can understand...but they will be eaten by a fox in minutes.

2 male negelcted piggies about to go to their deaths. Would anyone like them??

Sad

Dh sounds quite keen Shock

BabyDubsEverywhere · 09/06/2011 17:47

Bibbity, I know, i have four myself, all little ladies though and really no room...or money for anymore. I will keep them fed and clean before moving on to a forever home though, and in case anyone was wondering, she is deadly serious, has been threatening for a while. Sad

WorzselMummage · 09/06/2011 17:53

Righty well let me think it over and talk it though with DH and some GP owning friends.

What would i need to know ?

TheOriginalFAB · 09/06/2011 17:54

Will she still stay your friend?
Angry

BabyDubsEverywhere · 09/06/2011 17:56

Well she will be hard to dump, shes my Dsis sister inlaw, and we are all quite close, lots of family things with extended group etc. I certainly see her in a different light now....wide berth comes to mind!

The RSPCA have the best links for basic GP info. Feed single pellet food if you can because they are devils for selective feeding if you give mix feed.

I recently got landed with two guineas (ex playing superdad got them for the kids) and tbh my heart sank as I already have pets and just so didnt want the hassle. But I honestly would not be without them now. They do not smell at ALL, they are such sweet little characters. They pretty easy to take care of really. Mine have dried food with added Vit C, as Guineas cannot produce it themselves so you have to watch out they do not become deficient, it is easy enough to ensure this though. Each day mine get a handful of mixed fruit and veg (vitamin C rich) each, there is a list of suitable fruit and veg on the site I have linked too, and a manger full of hay and I let them out for a run round in the evening. They are really low maintenance tbh, we do handle ours quite a bit. Honestly the best thing about them is nothing ever goes to waste here now, all fruit and veg gets used up, its great!

cavy madness. This is a good site.

WorzselMummage · 09/06/2011 18:19

Could they live outside in a hutch with a run in the summer and then inside in the winter or is inside all the time better. I wouldn't want them to be stressed but we have a lovely big lawn that would be the perfect playing ground for a piggy i should imagine.

I'm getting a but excited. can you tell ?

WorzselMummage · 09/06/2011 18:20

Emma, that website is NOT HELPING!

Grin
akaEmmaFrost · 09/06/2011 18:30

Yes outside in summer but definitely inside in winter. Mine go on the lawn with a run as they are quite small. But I had older ones years ago and they used to run freely round the garden but you have to stay with them in case of cats.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 09/06/2011 18:30

Mine will be inside in the winter and in a run on the grass in the summer, happy piggies :)

Ours have never lived inside, ours are in a hutch outside we move into a wooden playhouse in the winter but we open the hutch on a morning and they have free reign on the garden till lock down at night - i love my girls well actually they are the kids but they dont know when they in bed i bring them in to watch the soaps on my lap Blush. Please post a piccy when you get them.

WorzselMummage · 09/06/2011 19:33

That sounds lovely Nice Grin

itsnicetobenice · 09/06/2011 19:39

i have just added a pic of my girls on the profile thingy

WorzselMummage · 09/06/2011 19:43

CUTE!! Do your squeek a lot ?

loler · 09/06/2011 19:43

itsnice - so cute!

I'm a veteran of GPs - had ours for a whole 6 weeks without killing them! I'm completely paranoid about them - much more than the dc or the dog. They are completely spoilt and have better quality veg than we do!

Hope the abandoned ones get a new home soon - and it shows me that they are probably tougher than I think they are!

BabyDubsEverywhere · 09/06/2011 19:45

Piggies are here....hmm....very timid, wouldnt even come to the front of the cage for fresh greens, but then they have never had them so...Sad

Going to get them in the garden run so i can disinfect the cage, Grim comes to mind!

They have a cage, a ball?! 2 small food bowls and a water bottle. Im going to give the cage a good scrub, see how it come up, they have been using newspaper and not cleaning it very often so the plastic looks like it may be stained. Their nails need cliping too i think, will see if i can find my clippers out, thats not a hard thing to do though, but being skittish makes it a bit more difficult. I know im not selling them very well but i dont want anyone to be disapointed. They are squeeking away and i think whoever has them will find them rewarding, they will need to get used to people again by the look of it, thats nothing more or less than spending time with them though so not a difficult thing to do.

One is black and white, and the other all black, the black one is slightly smaller. They are just over 18 months they think, they cant remember?!?!

Oh well, best start mucking out!

itsnicetobenice · 09/06/2011 19:47

yes ours wheeeeek alot - as soon as i open the patio on a morning they start making nooise so i let them out, on a night i go out and do a little special whistle which my neighbour likes to take the piss out off and they come trottering to the hutch and go in. Simples. My neighbour loves to look after them though and her dh has reported she does the whistle too Grin. Mine are coming up 5 and i love them in fact im signing off now to go get em.

itsnicetobenice · 09/06/2011 19:49

oh babydubs you have made me feel so sad - poor little babies Sad. Hope someoen cares for them soon.

WorzselMummage · 09/06/2011 19:59

Do you think they will ever get used to people ? Maybe a more experienced person would be a better owner for them than me ?

It makes me angry that people treat animals like that :(

itsnicetobenice · 09/06/2011 20:02

i think with plenty of love in form of fresh veg and daily handling they will be the most grateful of pets and you will all fall in love.

onclefestere · 09/06/2011 20:14

worzsel guinea pigs are easy peasy. You will be fine Grin. They are very resilient little things emotionally too and can bounce back from having had a rough emotional time to be very loving. They rock!!

bibbitybobbityhat · 09/06/2011 20:16

Worszel - they are the loveliest, loveliest, cutie pies. Please do not waver.
