what do we do? My dd (11) put her boy rabbit in with her girl rabbit and now we have babies! We are surprised because she's done this previously and no babies resulted.

Anyway we know quite a bit from our research but there is conflicting advice - so should we peep in to see how many babies there are or if any are dead? The rabbit is usually very tame and friendly and she is behaving completely normally. She's out in her hutch and the babies are in her bedding area. Should we risk lifting up the fur to see how many? Don't want her to reject them. She is 1 and its especially poignant cos daddy rabbit sadly died two weeks ago!

have you had babies and what do you suggest?

leave them alone. It might look like the mother has abandoned them because she is hardly ever with them.I presume this is a safety thing from wild rabbits. I think they only feed them for a couple of hours per day.
I found our first baby rabbit dead in the hutch as the vet had told us the rabbits were both males Hmm so I didint know he she was pergnant! although the pet shop had said they were one of each.
They did go on to have one more baby. he was the sweetest thing EVER but we hardly saw him until he was moving about. They tend to bury their babies in the bedding and completely hide them. We did check on him a couple of times but I would leave them alone TBH.
If you want to look don't touch them as she will probably reject them if they smell of human.

just though you might like an update
we have 4 baby rabbits all totally adorable.

Mum lets us pick them up and cuddle them and she doesn't mind one bit.

She feeds them once a day (so far as we can tell) and they are so cute, as soon as she comes into the nst they all make a beeline for her and start feeding - even though they haven't opened tehir eyes yet.

Now my dd is starting the 'i need to keep all 4
babies' offensive...anyone want a baby rabbit, or two... Hmm
