dog poo in your garden, what do you do with it?

was going to get one of http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.205-9123.aspx these for the back garden, but have ready mixed reviews.

is there a better way of dealing with it, other than bagging and taking to the doggy poo bin round the corner, daily/every other day.

Most of it I pick up with tissue and flush down the loo, I have got a clean green loo but it's just not breaking down!

Tortoise · 28/08/2010 22:33

I bag it and put it in the wheelie bin (dog bin down the road was set fire to about 2yrs ago and not replaced!)
I thought about one of those bins but not sure whether they are any good.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/08/2010 23:59

well db should deal with the enormous amount our horse puppy 2yr dog makes

but often doesnt Hmm

i often turf onto the roses

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 29/08/2010 08:14

Pick up, put it into a bucket, every couple of days flush it all down the loo.

If you bag it and bin it you are just preserving your dogs shit for all eternity, which is a bit gross imo.

minimu1 · 29/08/2010 09:24

Someone did say last time this came up that it is illegal to put down the loo. Can only be human remains. No idea if that is true.

You may find misdee that one of those buckets is not big enough for two dogs waste.

Haven't got time now but try and find the old thread on this a great idea was a compost thrench.

old link on dog poo!

morethanyoubargainfor · 29/08/2010 09:36

We pick ours up and put in wheelie bin (bagged of course) that is what all the council wants you to do with it. On all the blurb it clearly states bag and bin with house hold rubbish, DO NOT flush down the toilet.

We had one of those green bins and found it was terrible and didn't do what it said it does, personally i wouldn't get one as they just don't work, and the chemical costs quite alot as you use alot.

misdee · 29/08/2010 09:45

ah so its not against the law to put it in with the rubbish. dh thought it might be as you arent meant to put soiled nappies in the bin (meant to sluice off the poo first).

think i will get a bucket with a lid, line it with a big bag, and empty once a week with the general household waste then.

We have a septic tank so we pick up the poo and wash it down into the tank, so do our neighbours. Not sure why you shouldn't flush it into the public sewers.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 29/08/2010 09:54

Thanks for the link minimu

Glad to here it is ok to flush, I was worried for a moment then.

Googled as well to check and found these which I am going to get so I can flush poos from walks too.

stleger · 29/08/2010 09:55

Didn't Auntie Mabel flush Pippin's poo in the Come Outside episode on sewage? I have no idea why I know it isn't allowed, I bury it if there is any, my dog usually 'goes' on walkies. Today is worm tablet day here though...

NinthWave · 29/08/2010 09:56

My next door neighbours burn theirs on a bonfire once a week Hmm

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/08/2010 09:56

you cant put pooey nappys in the bin? Shock

dawntigga · 29/08/2010 09:57

They DO NOT WORK! We have a small dog and it just couldn't cope with the amount she made. I use biodegradable bags and bin it.

misdee · 29/08/2010 10:04

no, yu arent allowed to put human poo into the bin. you are meant to sluice it off. as i use washables its not an issue here

I think i love this idea doggybog

tibni · 29/08/2010 21:48

I bag and take it over the road to the dog bin.

musicmadness · 29/08/2010 23:30

either put it in the bin or if i am feeling very lazy fling it into the borders/over the fence into our neighbours overgrown wasteland at the bottom of his garden (with his permission!). It very rarely comes up though (once a month maybe if that), my dog hates pooing in his own garden and normally only poos when he is out on his walk tucked into a bush/ behind a tree Hmm. Wish i could say the same of the local fox cubs!
