Petition: New Disclosure and Safeguarding Mechanism for At-Risk Children

We propose a statutory safeguarding framework that facilitates proactive information sharing where a child is at risk due to a parent or caregiver’s known history, even when current laws may not trigger disclosure.

I’m generally wary of giving increased power to the state because they tend to abuse it (think th many times the terroism act has been used against people for situations that most definitely weren’t terrorism!).

What situation is law hoping to avoid that can’t be dealt with under existing laws? Social services can and do disclose to parents if they become aware of a problem. I know of a situation where a woman was dating a sex offender and SS made her aware so she could safeguard her children, for example.
