Please sign to end period poverty in the UK 😊

I can't see the details of the petition as it doesn't come up on a search - what are you proposing exactly? I would support period products being free for women on benefits and possibly for girls under 18, but not across the board - other necessary hygiene products aren't provided free. In an ideal world it would be great, but we don't live in an ideal world - we live in the UK which has huge holes in its government's budget.

There are already free things given to people in certain categories across the board (e.g. prescriptions) when some of them could easily afford to pay for them; meanwhile people on minimum wage are paying tax to cover it and struggling to afford their own needs, because they don't fall into a category of being over 60 or pregnant etc.

I don't think you should promote this petition until the text of it is available. I thought it might be a scam page to get peoples name and email address. But it seems to be the case that the petition service doesn't publish details of the petition until it has been verified.

Also, why on earth should period products be free? There are plenty of essential products that we have to pay for. Eg food.

Own brand period products are very cheap. Young women at school / college etc can get products free already.

The best thing to do is have Mumsnet remove this thread and find 5 of your mates to sponsor your petition. Then when it is live, post the link again.
