To find UK emergency vehicle sirens too loud?

Hulabalu · 11/05/2025 22:32

They aren’t this loud in France or Netherlands for example.
i believe they’ve got louder with new sirens fitted at some point over the years designed to be felt as well as heard within modern insulated cars.
I have found this petition on line & will sign.
Please sign if this bothers you too.

( if link won’t post then google 38 degrees petition for regulation of emergency sirens )

Especially fun when you're sitting at lights and one springs into life next to you.

They need to be loud though. It's not as if they can be turned down.

ReplacementBusService · 11/05/2025 22:39

Is there actual evidence they have got louder, or is it just a belief?

Lucyccfc68 · 11/05/2025 22:44

I don’t think they are loud enough judging by the amount of idiots who don’t move over to let them past (when it’s obvious they are able to).

ClearHoldBuild · 11/05/2025 22:49

I work next to a fire station and I can’t say that I have ever thought about it. Factoring in the noise of a busy town I imagine they’re the volume they are for a reason.
Do you encounter a lot of emergency vehicles in your day to day life?

Hulabalu · 11/05/2025 22:51

Decibel wise they’re damaging to ears and also noise that loud is actually bad for peoples health , it affects your heart rate etc even if you don’t realise it .
They don’t need to be that loud

They are loud, but I expect I'd want it to be, if I was the poor person beimg rushed to hospital.

But have they got louder? Decibel wise? In reality?

Itsoneofthose · 11/05/2025 22:53

Loud noises can cause huge difficulties for people with inner ear problems such as tinnitus. It’s a hidden disability. I will sign.

BatFeminist · 11/05/2025 22:53

i think what they are doing is more important than our temporary comfort levels

Hulabalu · 11/05/2025 22:54

They never used to be this loud . They are definitely louder than on the continent .

That might be an issue for the medical staff -and are sirens really louder here than on the continent?, but for the rest of us? Come on, be serious for a minute.

Is it at all possible that you are getting older and more affected by noise?

ToKittyornottoKitty · 11/05/2025 22:57

Why can’t you just be grateful that those sirens aren’t for you or a loved one and move on with your day? Of all the things you could complain about on this planet you pick noise levels of emergency vehicles driving past you. Get a grip

minnienono · 11/05/2025 22:58

Any quieter and you wouldn’t hear them in your car

Do you carry a decibel meter whenever you travel?

Goatshavehairyfeet · 11/05/2025 22:59

You know, if you move out of their way you don’t have to listen to them for as long.

Mademetoxic · 11/05/2025 23:00

How old are you OP? As we age and get older, some people are more sensitive to loud noises.

ClearHoldBuild · 11/05/2025 23:00

Maybe it’s aging… like wagon wheels seem smaller, sirens seem louder.

Stopsnowing · 11/05/2025 23:01

I do think it is much harder to tell where they are coming from than the old style sirens which is dangerous.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 11/05/2025 23:02

No thanks, I would prefer that they're loud so that people take notice. They need to be heard easily over whatever music etc people might be playing in the car.

If you ever have a loved one blue lighted to hospital, then I doubt you'll really care about the noise.

Abominolom · 11/05/2025 23:02

YES YES YES!!! I agree that your ears and your heart rate are what’s really important in an emergency.

Commonsenseisnotsocommon · 11/05/2025 23:02

So if you are ever in the back of an ambulance being carted off to hospital do you want quiet ones that dont alert drivers to clear a path for you? Or would that be different?🤔

And an ambulance not being heard quickly enough can cause huge difficulties for people with heart attacks such as death. This is fucking stupid. I won’t sign.
