Toilets guidance for schools;

The 2015 advice includes the following:

• Handwash amenities must be located within close proximity to every toilet, while it’s imperative that washrooms are sufficiently well lit and properly ventilated.
• Toilet blocks have to be easy to access for students and allow for passive supervision by staff, without infringing on privacy.
• Quoting the SPR 2012 (Regulation 4.2), the guidance states: "Separate toilet facilities for boys and girls aged eight years or over must be provided except where the toilet facility is provided in a room that can be secured from the inside and that is intended for use by one pupil at a time."
• For secondary school children, appropriate changing rooms and showers must be available for PE lessons.
• Staff facilities should be separate from those used by students, although disabled toilets are allowed to be accessed by both students, staff, visitors and volunteers.

The 2015 advice adds: "Where there is unisex provision, the privacy of the occupant needs to be ensured and this will be achieved by, for example, having adequate enclosure and a full height door."
In terms of the appropriate number of units to have, the key guidelines to have in mind is “British Standard 6465-1: 2006+A12009”, which states the appropriate number of units for secondary school children. This details:

• Male toilet and urinals: one per 20 students while urinals should constitute no more than two-thirds of the boys’ fixtures.
• Female toilets: one per 20 students.
• Handwash basins: one per toilet/urinal where there are three or fewer fixtures. Two per three toilets/urinals where there are three or more fixtures. Toilets and urinals should be near to a handwash basin.

Literally who cares. Toilets are not social spaces, they are facilities for waste elimination. If you care this much who is shitting near you, you’re a either an absolute weirdo exploring your own very strange hang ups or, in the case of this petition, a twelve year old who needs an adult to explain what toilets are for.

Women and girls are entitled to have single sex spaces so men and boys should keep the hell out of them!

Just because you don't care if a grown man is shitting in the toilet next to you doesn't mean the rest of us have to put up with it.

Sorry your child is so insecure she can’t share public facilities with other children- that’s a failure of your parenting more than a societal issue though.

Girls deserve privacy.
It isn't a question of insecurity.
They should also be confident that men will not intrude.
Men are always trampling over women's safe spaces.

@olivechuu IDK why you think it is so vital that boys are allowed into the toilets where girls are eliminating or dealing with periods, and I don't care.

In the UK, schools are supposed to provide single sex toilets. Get over it.

Oh yes, that’s right, let’s blame a 12 year old girl for this!

Mixed sex toilets in school will be used by any pupil from an 11 year old (year 7) girl, to an 18 year old (year 13) man!!!

I can only assume you are either a female with no compassion towards other females. Or a male who gets a kick out of making women/girls feel uncomfortable in spaces that should be designated to them and them only.

My ds' school has single sex loos, but signed anyway.

What idiot thinks shared loos are a good idea? It's only a matter of time before a girl is sexually assaulted. Probably before the summer term ends. How can authorities be so mind-bogglingly stupid ?? 😡
