All parents of teenagers and younger should sign this petition calling for - Tighter restrictions on companies marketing vape kits at children & young people.

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/618911

My 14 year old son became addicted to nicotine last year (I have weaned him off since) as disposable vapes all contain nicotine and are pocket money prices.

They are colourful with hundreds of lovely flavours and social media is rife with videos showing the vapetricks that you can do with the vapour. This product should only be an aid to stop smoking yet it is stacked high in every newsagents and made to look fun and enjoyable to our children.

The petition is a starting point to get the Government to impose tighter restrictions on the production and marketing of vape kits to ensure they do not appeal to children and young people, this will help all our children (some will still try as with everything) the less appealing it looks the better as adults who want to stop smoking will still use it they don't need it to look like sweeties etc.

Photo shows the products I found my son had - the larger bottles are zero nicotine and all are readily available and visually promoted to look appealing to our children. The legal age to buy is 18 but some unscrupulous traders don't care about that bit!

Hi Maria,

I'm studying MA Television Journalism at City University and am making a short film about the epidemic of vaping among teenagers, and why there aren't stricter advertising regulations. Your story and petition sounds so interesting and really important.

It'd be so helpful to have a chat with you to find out more about it - it'd be great if you could email me at [email protected] or call me on 07775024235.

Thanks,

Eleanor

This needs a bump too. This is serious problem. I am aware that children are now arriving in secondary school already addicted, that means 11 year olds. Please let’s tackle this as a society now before we have another generation of nicotine addicts. There is already evidence that it is harmful to the developing brain.
