Banning balloon releases

There has been another tragedy local to us. The default reaction seems to always be balloon release. So harmful. They're sad their loved one died, so they're gonna inflict death elsewhere to make them feel better.
I really don't understand the mentality.
So bloody selfish.

I have seen balloon releases described as environmentally friendly as they are using biodegradable balloons no idea if such a thing exists but if they do then so what? They would harm wildlife long before the bloody things biodegrade.

Signed and posting to bump... At best, it's deliberate mass littering and at worst it's harmful to animals (both wildlife and farm animals etc).

Ugh, I remember someone suggesting a balloon release to me when my boyfriend died. In fairness to them, this was a long time ago and people weren't as aware back then. I was polite during the conversation but internally I was thinking "wtf, why?"...

He loved nature. He would not have wanted anyone to release a load of balloons and do some much harm.

Besides which, I don't see what good it would have done? I don't think it would have helped me grieve at all. I didnt get it at the time and I still don't get it now.

I planted a sunflower. It's long dead now, but it felt cathartic at the time.

Hopefully this gets more signatures! MN seems very anti balloons in general, so I'm sure if it gets into trending that a lot of people will sign.

I'm so sorry about your boyfriend. Planting flowers or trees is a much nicer way to celebrate someone's life. Maybe the flowers die, but they feed the bees that are essential for al life, their seeds feed the birds, eventually they become nutrition for other plants. Such a lovely positive thing to come out of a tragic loss.

There is no excuse for balloon releases at all in this day and age.
