Please think about signing this, I think its a really worrying clause - the ability to strip citizenship from anyone without warning.

I'd already signed, but bumping this.

Ohjustboreoff · 09/12/2021 17:29

I don't think you'll get many supporters. I totally agree that if someone has dual citizenship and they commit a crime they should definitely be stripped of their U.K. citizenship. Why do you want more criminals here we have enough home grown ones!

inloveagain2022 · 09/12/2021 17:53

Yes but it isn't just about dual citizenship is it??

inloveagain2022 · 09/12/2021 17:53

Have signed btw op

Ohjustboreoff · 09/12/2021 18:13

@inloveagain2022 no government is allowed to make someone stateless so yes it is about dual citizenship.

I'm sure I saw that that's exactly what Priti Patel is attempting to do but fair enough I'm probably wrong then

1Micem0use · 09/12/2021 19:01

It sends a worrying message that dual citizens are somehow less British. Tones of zenophobia and racism. They are not. Britain shouldn't shy away from its responsibility for justice and rehabilitate

Ellieboolou33 · 09/12/2021 19:03

Thanks for sharing but I will NOT be signing 😀

VitalsStable · 09/12/2021 19:07

If it's because they've committed any crime here I think it's entirely reasonable that they be placed on a plane and ferried back to what ever country they came here from so won't be signing.

What do you mean whatever country they came from? Hmm
Theworldisfullofgs · 09/12/2021 19:52

Ohjustboreoff
Began does not have dual citizenship. Its precisely what's happened here. Whether you agree with her individual case it's the principle. You need to read the actual clause.

www.newstatesman.com/the-explainer/2021/12/what-does-the-nationality-and-borders-bill-mean-for-you

Since 2014 its been possible to make people with single citizenship stateless. That's you and me.

Theworldisfullofgs · 10/12/2021 07:14

Bumping this.

Do people realise that this bill is proposing going back as far as where your grandparents where born to determine citizenship. It's a thin edge of the wedge thing.

OP posts:
Ohjustboreoff · 10/12/2021 12:53

If you commit a serious crime or are a real danger to the general public I'm quite happy for anyone to be put on a plane.
I think if you were one of the girls who were raped by the Asian gang or mother of the people killed in the Manchester bombing or someone raped/murdered by someone who was allowed back onto the street but had another country to go to, would you been wanting to keep these individuals in this country?

Theworldisfullofgs · 10/12/2021 16:50

I honestly don't get how you can't see how this policy is not a: racist and b: inherently dangerous
The raft of policies this government is putting through is about suppressing debate . This policy can be morphed into getting rid of anyone whose face and view doesn't fit. My grandparents were Irish, therefore the potential is if I do something this government or a future government doesn't like I can be stripped of citizenship.
It's principle not about specific cases.
