Nursery fees reimbursed when closed with Covid case - please sign!
Boomboomtown · 21/01/2021 15:23
Hi all! I hope I'm not breaking any rules here, but I'm just posting a petition set up to ask the government for help when our nurseries close. We would like fees reimbursed when we're not able to access childcare because someone has fallen ill and forced the nursery to close.
We know nurseries would go bust if they lost the fees, and we fully support the closures to keep everyone safe, but ultimately working or non-working parents end up with paying for childcare they're not able to use, which doesn't seem right. We think it's time the government stepped up and helped us.
Please sign and share with other parents!

Haven't the competition and markets authority already issued advise to nurseries that this is against consumer laws?

@India999
I had read something on this
A government site maybe

This is really so awful. Parents and nurseries are not happy I wish the government would close nurseries all together that way every one can stay safe.

@Fandabydosey
Ah no thanks not everyone feels this

It's already in the gov.uk guidance that they shouldn't charge in these circumstances. Look up 'Actions for early years and childcare'.
But if you want your nursery to still exist post lockdown it might be good to speak to them and try and negotiate something.

My nursery has credited me for the time when bubbles burst. But I wouldn't have minded if they didn't. I do want them to still exist at the end of this.

@MarshaBradyo no body truely wants this but while nurseries are open to all as normal. Then I am afraid nurseries will have to close where there had been a confirmed case. Sadly there is a small minority that think its normal to send a sick child to nursery. I have friends working in nurseries saying parents are dosing children up with calpol and knowingly sending their sick children in, I have personally witnessed it too. It's only when the calpol wears off that you notice a sick child, by which time it is too late and they have been in setting for 4 hours. This happened in one nursery the child then tested positive for covid... Nursery is now in isolation and closed to everyone. Whilst there is this minority of people who think this is acceptable to do this, nurseries are not safe. Not everyone thinks like you do and would be sensible in this case. Once this is over there will be a serious shortage of nursery spaces. I know we could fill my setting twice over with the waiting list. Because nurseries are no longer sustainable and are going out of business.

Thanks @India999 for this! My concern with this is that nurseries will be the ones forced to lose out, and a lot are already really struggling at the moment. Shouldn't the government be helping out here?
