Erm... no.

I bloody love Christmas but I'm not having my kids isolate for two weeks and miss out on yet more of their education for the sake of one day.

Also agree with PP, how is that fair on non-Christians and others who do not celebrate Christmas?

Jog on.

Nottherealslimshady · 16/11/2020 20:45

Kids education is more important than christmas.

flowerycurtain · 16/11/2020 20:46

Completely and utterly disagree. It's kids education that needs saving, not xmas. The NHS, the food factory workers.

God won't care if you don't celebrate his sons birthday in the usual way this year.

If you are even contemplating isolating for two weeks before xmas to see family (maybe an exception for very elderly people clearly facing their last xmas) then you have no bloody idea how lucky you are this year. Some of us don't have that choice schools or not.

JuliaJohnston · 16/11/2020 20:46

Jesus Hmm

iMatter · 16/11/2020 20:46

I couldn't care less about Christmas.

I couldn't care more about my children's education. That's the most important thing on my radar right now.

eeyore228 · 16/11/2020 20:47

No thanks. Our Christmas every year is dependant on shifts at work. We’ve had one together in 8 yrs. we don’t go to family it’s usually me with the kids. The drama being made over Christmas is ridiculous it’s one year.

Robinkitty · 16/11/2020 20:48

No way, my kids have missed way too much of their education already, they need to stay in school.

MarshaBradyo · 16/11/2020 20:48

@JuliaJohnston

Jesus Hmm
I love the simplicity of this
SueEllenMishke · 16/11/2020 20:49

No thanks.
Children have missed out on too much learning already this year.

WanderingMilly · 16/11/2020 20:50

I work in a school. Yes, they do bloody well need to shut. At least we're wearing masks now, but still no social distancing...and that's amongst staff.
How can the rates of transmission go down while schools are open?

I'm not bothered about saving Christmas, that doesn't matter so much to me. But getting the COVID rates down, that does matter.

DianaT1969 · 16/11/2020 20:51

No. Completely disagree. Save Christmas? As in eat a lot and open presents? Consumerism day?
You know that schools have Christmas events too, don't you? The faith schools might even have events which are actually relevant to this religious holiday.

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 16/11/2020 20:51

No no no no no!!

Just spent 2 weeks trying to teach via google classroom with my year 5s!! It was a hell I don't want to return to! I want to teach in class in front of them all not through a screen to the few that turn up to lessons.

Pascha · 16/11/2020 20:52

My children's mental health rather depends on them being at school right now. I'd rather have healthy happy kids who zoom call grandparents than tearful stressed children

EthelPullsItOff · 16/11/2020 20:52

Why do schools 'need this'?

monkeytennis97 · 16/11/2020 20:54

Sorry to derail OP but I notice all these parents here caring passionately about their kids education. Please could you sign this one then as schools need your help

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/555718

Ps OP I've signed.

JuliaJohnston · 16/11/2020 20:55

Tell us what it is, Monkey

PeterPomegranate · 16/11/2020 20:55

Another one who won’t be signing. I’d rather my children were in school if they can be (as it is my year 6 is home self isolating after positive cases in his year).

monkeytennis97 · 16/11/2020 20:56

@JuliaJohnston

Schools need this in time for Xmas
JuliaJohnston · 16/11/2020 20:58

Oh, fair enough.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/11/2020 20:59

No way.

sausagedoglove · 16/11/2020 21:00

No thanks.

There are millions of us who don't have elderly relatives in this country to visit this Christmas, or even celebrate Christmas in the first place!

I'd rather my child be getting an education. Feel free to pull yours out though OP!

Dancingalong · 16/11/2020 21:02

No thanks

isadoradancing123 · 16/11/2020 21:07

Education and keeping the children is much more important than saving christmas

FatGirlShrinking · 16/11/2020 21:19

Even if they close schools for 2 weeks and we all completely isolate, the only family I have to visit are DHs parents who are both in their 70s with underlying medical conditions and his gran who's in her 90s.

The risk to them is too high for the sake of a few hours, some presents and a meal.

Why does everyone have this obsession with one day and a roast dinner?

MarshaBradyo · 16/11/2020 21:20

I prefer my primary age dc in school having fun, pre Christmas excitement rather than stuck at home in front of a screen.

Ditto secondary but with crucial exam learning.

But if you want to withdraw your dc and keep them home go for it.
