No thanks but put it in petition section

LeaveMyDamnJam · 16/11/2020 20:32

You need to explain what you are promoting. I- and many other people - won’t click on a link without knowing what it is.

LoudBatPerson · 16/11/2020 20:33

Eduction is more important than Christmas, which isn't cancelled, just different.

WanderingMilly · 16/11/2020 20:35

I've signed, this is brilliant. I've sent the link on to friends and family too....

Someonesayroadtrip · 16/11/2020 20:35

It's asking for a 2 week lockdown before Christmas to "save Christmas". I see what you're saying, big honestly I don't agree and actually whatever you mean by "saving Christmas" could be the final nail in the coffin for many businesses who are banking on this time.

Someonesayroadtrip · 16/11/2020 20:38

*but

I could see the advantage of closing a few days to a week early but if schools close for 2 weeks the pressure for businesses would be unsustainable at that time.

EasterIssland · 16/11/2020 20:38

No thanks. Why should Sikh and Muslim give up their big religious days and Christians can’t do the same ? Are we more important than them?

Since when a day within a year is more important of the education of future doctors lawyers supermarket people or whatever ?

What about those people that we don’t care about Xmas should our kids being punish as well without their classes ? Or those families that have to work and would lack in childcare ?

NullcovoidNovember · 16/11/2020 20:38

I think taking dc out of school two weeks prior and locking them down will save Xmas actually.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/11/2020 20:39

Er, no. I want my child in school.

HforHavana · 16/11/2020 20:39

Completely disagree. Me and a lot of other people don't have the option to isolate 2 weeks before to 'save Christmas'. What does 'save Christmas' even mean? It's not going anywhere...

MintCassis · 16/11/2020 20:40

YABU. My pupils have lost enough learning time. Going back to another stint of home learning before Christmas would set them all back again, educationally and emotionally. Most parents wouldn’t cope well either.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/11/2020 20:40

And since I can't work from home and Christmas is our busiest time of year I can't see my boss ir colleagues being happy about me taking 2 weeks off because school is shut.

PaperTowels · 16/11/2020 20:42

Nope.

Ivy455 · 16/11/2020 20:42

Definitely not.

OverTheRainbow88 · 16/11/2020 20:42

I’d rather 2 more week of education than one day if eating and drinking too much.

Let’s focus on making schools much safer

EchoLimaYankee · 16/11/2020 20:42

No schools don’t need that. They need money, they need more staff, more space. Children need to come in to school and catch up with the months of missed learning. Their parents need to go to work and not have to try to teach, work and ‘make a magical Christmas’.
It is what it is. We have to make the best of it.

dappledsunshine · 16/11/2020 20:42

Fgs what's all this big drama about saving xmas. It's one day out of one crap year, let's all just accept it will be different and crack on with making the best of a tricky situation.

LoudBatPerson · 16/11/2020 20:42

@NullcovoidNovember

It wouldn't just be the schools though, it would need to be a full strict lockdown, with the financial hardship, job losses and non Covid associated health issues that goes along with it. All of those things would be more damaging to the country than a smaller Christmas, for just this one year.
Chasingpandas · 16/11/2020 20:43

No we’re currently in lockdown, I’m not doing it again. Although I do think schools should break up a bit early, two weeks is a bit excessive seeing as schools were closed for so long earlier in the year

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 16/11/2020 20:43

This exactly!!! What about all the parents who would have to struggle working from home while looking after children again, or those that will need to take unpaid leave to cover childcare.

If you want to take your kids out of school, you crack on.

MarshaBradyo · 16/11/2020 20:43

The save Christmas line is so ridiculous it needs to die a death.

Balhammom · 16/11/2020 20:43

Awful idea. Sorry but education is way more important.

millymollymoomoo · 16/11/2020 20:43

No schools don’t need to shut
Hth

LilyMumsnet · 16/11/2020 20:44

We're just moving this over to our petitions topic. Flowers

EasterIssland · 16/11/2020 20:44

I think people should own their decisions. If you want to save your Xmas ... then have a quiet Xmas. No need to be meeting with all family and friends. Just closest family should be enough and that way January won’t be a disaster like we are many fearing because some people always think they’re entitled to anything
