Petition to the government: Review education for children with special educational needs and disabilities

Currently many children with special educational needs and disabilities do not have their needs adequately met by mainstream schools. The Government should review educational provision for these children and increase support where needed.

The Government should conduct a disability census to enhance transparency and aid planning. The Government should review current capacity and ensure there is basic capacity in all non-selective mainstream school for children with special educational needs or disabilities, including resources to assess such children’s needs before any decisions are made about exclusion or isolation, particularly educational psychologist input.

There are not enough special school spaces in our area.

We have some children at the high end of need with 2 to 1 specialist care that we struggle to cater for even when you try your hardest. Everyone agrees where they should be but there is no room.
