Most European countries with similar numbers of Covid19 cases have closed their schools.
The WHO are criticising the UK’s herd immunity policy.

I don't think closing the schools is going to protect the elderly, as parents will expect the GPS to look after the kids whilst they are at work. Giving them way more exposure and therefore risk for catching it.

I will not be signing. I want all NHS nurses to be at work in our hospitals, not stuck at home minding their children because the schools are shut.
And what about the thousands of vulnerable grandparents who will offer to mind the kids and then get infected?
Damn silly idea.

I do do not understand how closing schools helps?!

soloula · 14/03/2020 16:21

Nope. Keep the schools open. It won't protect the elderly as they'll be the ones left child minding to allow parents to go to work. And it won't protect the elderly or vulnerable as they'll not be able to keep the NHS running at current capacity with a reduced staff who've all had to stay home and watch their kids.

Unhelpful to close schools.

FizzyLimes · 14/03/2020 17:07

Well let’s hope everyone is practicing social distancing then

We've moved this over to our petitions board now. Flowers

I mentioned on another thread I spoke to a GP and his big fear was schools closing, because grandparents will be drafted in to look after kids and they are most at risk. I’ve seen this on my children’s whats app class groups - so many people talking about school closures and how they will have to get grandparents in to look after children.
