My friend was killed and didn't get justice. Will mumsnetters help to stop it happening to someone else?

In 2015, nearly 5000 people were killed of seriously injured in hit and runs in London alone.

This number is on the rise. Leaving a fatal accident scene benefits the perpetrator as if they are caught they face a much lesser sentence of Leaving the Scene rather than Death by Dangerous Driving.

My friend was one of those killed and his family are trying to change the law so that leaving the scene of fatal hit and runs is a comparable offence and remove the once incentive to drive away. He was left to die in the road aged 36 and the man who killed him served just 61 days in prison.

This crime can happen to anyone of us. Children have been killed in hit and runs. Elderly people have too.

Children have been left without a mother or a father because of this crime.
For those who callously drive away and leaving someone dying in the road to get a sentence of days or weeks it's vile.

Imagine how you'd feel if this happened to a loved one? I really hope it never happens to anyone reading but it could.

Please help change this law so that justice can be done for victims and their families.* *

I am intrigued by the sound of 'uk cop humour'

That's great siwel. Do any of your contacts know of any similar sites for members of the other Emergency Services?

UK cop humour is an amazing group that post on Facebook, Twitter etc and is run by serving police officers and ex officers.

It's to show police officers are normal people etc so shows them doing funny, nice and cute things while working.
It's bloody hilarious sometimes as well, plus cure pictures of dogs and kids dressed up as cops regulary appear

There's thin blue line, and other emergency service groups which I will contact if you want?

Just to clarify I'm not part of emergency services, just a plain civil servant in he ministry of justice . But I did work as a police special for a bit.

He admin I'm messaging is going to sign it and get the team too.

They're deciding whether to share it or not though as if they do share it it means they will get sent a lot of requests to do the same and they feel it could mean they would have to turn down some people which would be unfair.
But they're debating it now , so who knows
