Your details remain private, I don't want to start yet another trans thread but I thnk we can all agree that there needs to be more discussion with the people affected by the changes in law!

Plaid were the one remaining party who hadn't clearly nailed their flags to the mast. Seems they have now, and thus there goes my potential vote.

NoSquirrels · 13/03/2018 08:18

The ‘I believe trans women are women’ argument is convenient and a snappy Twitter-worthy screenshot for politicians.

See, I’m perfectly happy to call trans women ‘women’. I’m not happy to agree they are biologically female. I’m not happy to agree anyone can be legally recognised as a woman without having their medical condition recognised.

cloudtree · 13/03/2018 08:25

DSis has also just signed

Truscum · 13/03/2018 08:28

It’s just I know when they repeat the ‘transwomen are women’ they aren’t saying:

‘We will be kind and in some cases refer to someone’s pronouns, we don’t actually believe it but know it helps. We think trans people need respect.’

What they actually mean is:

‘Transwomen are women. Transwomen are women (I don’t believe it either but it looks good and I’m too scared to not say it) Sure, transwomen are exactly the same as women why not? They can have what they want, just please don’t target me with the political death ray’

fflonkl · 13/03/2018 08:33

Signed. Thank you OP!

ladyballs · 13/03/2018 08:37

Signed.

There are now five in my area! So glad I posted it on Facebook, though there was a fiery discussion about it with the inevitable 'Trans women are women' and 'why would a man dress as a woman to demean himself hurt women - which I think is a sentiment insulting to both trans women and women.

I hear your frustrations Truscum

NoSquirrels · 13/03/2018 08:43

@Trusc absolutely agree. It’s maddening because I suspect a large proportion of the country (particularly liberal leaning) agree with the sentiment of ‘trans women are women’ without hsvung thought through the consequences of the illogical assumptions that it erodes the biological sex definition and all that comes with that. Hence the ‘transphobic’ knee-jerk reaction to questioning anything.

I want to be able to openly say ‘I support trans women to refer to themselves/be referred to as women, but I want biological sex protections to be continued to be enshrined in law’.

It’s not controversial. We can all exist happily alongside each other.
Or we should be able to.

Hello to the six others in Filton and Bradley Stoke!

I emailed Jack Lopresti about this a couple of days ago. It would be great if others would do the same

I'm another one very disappointed with Leanne Wood and Plaid. I guess that's me spoiling my ballot paper at the next election.

I've asked her to at least look at what A Woman's Place is asking for, but I don't hold out much hope. Sad

Somerville · 13/03/2018 08:56

Can't believe this is almost a third of the way to a response from the government already. Shock

Brilliant, everyone.

BeyondDeadlySiren · 13/03/2018 09:00

Wish there was a way of finding the others in my area Grin

sashh · 13/03/2018 09:00

Meanwhile the rest of the world will carry on supporting our friends who happen to be trans. And I don't give two hoots who is in the cubicle next to me when I'm pissing. I got over that pretty quickly in military accommodation.

This is not anti trans, this is merely asking for a conversation about self ID.

Many trans people are as concerned as non trans.

Self ID means you can id as a man or a women multiple times with no changes to your body.

So if there is a women's only swimming session, say Wednesday evening, a man can self id as a woman only on Wednesday evenings and demand access to the changing rooms and showers.

I am from a medical background and self id has concerns for medical treatment. SO a pulmonary function test tells the medics how your lungs are functioning. But it is measured against the 'norm' for your height, race and sex.

So two people go for PFT, one is a trans woman and one is a trans man. They both have tyhe same results but the trans man may be sent for further investigations, prescribed drugs etc. this is because their lungs do not function in line with the norm of an adult male.

In contrast the trans woman is not given treatment or sent for other tests because although they have a lung condition their function is normal for a woman of the same height.

I was sent a tweet this morning, it was what appeared to be a man in his underwear, but 'she' claims to be a woman and has threatened physical violence to anyone who disagrees.

0.05% of the population are trans, but self ID is going to impact on everyone but disproportionately on women.

Lily Madigan has said she is going to volunteer at a women's refuge and if a woman objects then she will 'educate them'. I believe a woman leaving a violent relationship should have a choice of who she works with, is accommodated with and the right to object to anyone for any reason. (If you don't know Lily is a women's officer with a biologically male body)

Oh and Ian Huntley is currently claiming to be a woman. Does anyone seriously think he should be moved to a woman's prison? Would anyone really want him sharing a cell with a vulnerable 18 year old?

Babyplaymat · 13/03/2018 09:03

Signed and shared.

worstwitch18 · 13/03/2018 09:11

Well said sashh

BeyondDeadlySiren · 13/03/2018 09:17

My own mp is a bit wishy washy on the subject, however I've just emailed the link to a neighbouring mp who has spoken out against self ID. Fingers crossed they share it on their much larger platform than mine!

Tanith · 13/03/2018 09:30

It's going to have an impact on Education, too.

For example, there are initiatives (and funding) to improve the performance of boys in education. Many are failing.

How can we identify a group, or target funding, when the means of identification is unreliable?
With boys becoming girls and girls becoming boys, it may well skew the figures so that these initiatives are no longer considered necessary.

Now, I understand that politicians might well think this is great - an easy way of improving figures and cutting funding, but I'm sure that's not why they might be in favour of self-id... is it?!

Still! Let's look on the bright side! We could all identify as men on a Saturday morning and grab those bacon sarnies at the Children's Centre Smile

SuitedandBooted · 13/03/2018 09:34

In my experience, most of the "Transwomen are women" supporters haven't really thought things through at all, and they are just jumping on the trendy bandwagon. They assume that all the men wanting to change do/will actually present as women and have/will have surgery. In reality, many "Modern" Transwomen make no attempt at all to "pass", and have no intention of losing their penis. (80%+ have no surgical interventions or medical treatment). Transwomen like this still want sex with women, but as "Lesbians", because THEY are women too!!

For those going WTF!! - I know, it took a while for me to get my head round that too!

And for those who say And I don't give two hoots who is in the cubicle next to me when I'm pissing, how about this person? Happy to send your daughter into the Ladies if he's in there?

www.newstatesman.com/politics/feminism/2018/01/marie-dean-story-shows-there-s-no-simple-answer-how-we-treat-transgender

P.S When The Guardian first reported this, they made NO MENTION AT ALL of what Dean's had actually done - brief details were only added after a storm of complaints - how biased is that!!

This is not about demonising all Transgender people - it is calling for proper debate and consultation. I think women deserve that, and it's not much to ask.

Melamin · 13/03/2018 09:36

If everyone gets 3 people to sign up, then we are nearly there just from the grassroots. If it can be more widely shrared, who knows? I am trying to get my older friends who are not social media addicts to look at it as they are the old school feminists who have seen a lot of bullshit and are not prey to trap stuff, as long as they do not feel the world has gone mad and left them behind.

Gileswithachainsaw · 13/03/2018 09:46

.

Ritzsaltedcrackers · 13/03/2018 09:49

We really need some high profile/celebrity Twitter users to start tweeting this. Surely someone is brave enough?

SummerTimeSoon · 13/03/2018 09:54

I've tried to sign twice but didn't receive an email with the link to complete it. Does the email usually it take very long to come though?

Melamin · 13/03/2018 09:54

Has anyone noticed the scale at the side of the map keeps getting longer?

Yesterday it went up to 8+, this morning it went up to 16+, and now it goes up to 22+.

This does thwart my ambition to turn the country a nice shade of Cabernet Sauvignon.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 13/03/2018 09:57

It was immediate for me SummerTimeSoon

BeyondDeadlySiren · 13/03/2018 09:57
