Hi,

I am worried about a second independence referendum and feel that it was settled in 2014.

If you agree please sign, and raise awareness of this petition by telling friends and family and sharing on your social media. I only just noticed the petition as it has not been well publicised.

Please do not be put off that it says conservatives. It will not be construed as support for their policies. They are just the ones running the petition

I think the backlash against this shows that the SNP vote was not a vote for the raison d'être of that party, but was all connected to the collapse of Labour. I read that the party which came second pretty much across Scotland was the Conservatives, and they gained ground.

Yes, MNHQ can be a little inconsistent in the speed with which petitions are moved to the section.

They should all be moved though - MN is a chat site (not a campaigning one, unless MNHQ actually adopts something as a campaign and even then there's a topic for that too).

Angua If you are in the uk you should feel confident to sign.

Scottish people voted to remain in the uk and therefore we decided to be british. 60% don't want a referendum.

Allowing repeated referendums until we get the answer desired by the government sets a dangerous precedent in UK democracy.

Of course there must be a second referendum. Not to do so would be massively undemocratic and a fraud on the people of Scotland as the 2014 campaign was totally based on "remaining in the UK is your only way to remain in the EU" whereas now it has become that leaving the UK is the only way to remain in the EU.

But 60% of people don't want one even after the uk vote to leave the eu.

So if it does go the way of separation from UK, of course we can have another referendum to rejoin can't we as that seems to be how it goes? Don't like result keep pushing for another vote?

I still don't see it as my business. It's nothing to do with confidence, it's how I see the issue.

I thought that the whole of UK should have had a say in devolution, because that was changing the nature of a Union (of which we were members). But if one party wants out, that's up to them.

Not dissimilar from marriage - if changes are needed, both spouses need to be committed to them and therefore get a say in what they are. If one decides it's over, the other doesn't get to tell them different

Fair enough angua I can see where you are coming from. I am in scotland and I view it more like this (in marriage terms)

I tend to look at it as... some tart (ns) keeps trying to get a married man (scotland) to have an affair and she is continuously slagging off his wife (england) and calling her a stuck up snooty cow. He said no firmly and his wife was pleased. Now she's back again only this time she is trying to manipulate the situation by ignoring what he says and trying to break up the marriage by convincing him that his wife is stealing from him and is secretly planning to kill him. The tart is watching and waiting for the day when the wife is feeling weak so she can get rid of the wife and keep the man in a cage in the garden.

Have you seen the number of signatures on the westminster petition there are now!!! Nearly at 85000 already. Keep it up scotland!!! We need to show the snp they can't just claim to speak for us whilst blatantly ignoring the last referendum result!!!

If 60% honestly don't want a referendum then then there isn't much of an issue in having it. The campaigners will say their words, you'll have a vote and 60% will vote to stay in the UK. Nothing will change.

Or maybe all this clamour isn't actually representative of the will of the Scottish people. Even if 500,000 sign the petition that's still less than 10% of the population of Scotland. Wherever this 60% figure comes from it's just an opinion poll and the last few months have conclusively demonstrated that opinion polls do not correctly model actual opinions.

There should be a referendum. Anyone who does not want independence has an opportunity to vote no again.

I think you are massively underestimating the damage having a referendum does to investment in scotland, creation of jobs and social cohesion.

The last one was hugely damaging and this one will be even worse.

Scotland is being permanently damaged by the refusal to listen to the outcome of the last referendum.

The engagement of the whole country politically was a huge positive, I felt.
