I've RTFT and can't see one single poster insisting that foxes are cute and fluffy

fenneltea · 12/07/2015 08:24

I think the inference that those who are against foxhunting and are 'townies and ignorant' is pretty insulting.

I've been brought up and live in the country, I have horses, sheep and have had chickens as already stated, and I live harmoniously with foxes.

If a fox can't be hit outright with a gun, then I'd question the skills of the shooter. I still think that it is preferable to be shot than to be hunted down for hours on end in terror eventually being ripped to pieces (there is plenty of video evidence to prove that this is the case, the neck isn't swiftly broken.) Those arguments are made by hunters to justify the fact that they want a good day out with a good chase. A hunt near me was found rearing fox cubs in a barn, hardly good pest control!

lilacblossomtime · 12/07/2015 08:29

Yes it is cruel, a fox is just as intelligent as a dog and for any dog owner you can tell how scared your dog would be to be chased by hounds. As for saying being savaged to death by hounds is more humane than being shot that is not what I would call humane. I am not against all hunting, I believe that an animal in the wild has a better life than one in an intensive farm, and that if it is shot by an expert and killed quickly that is no worse than how we slaughter farm animals and maybe better. Of course they shouldn't be wounded and left to die but that is mainly down to the skill of the hunter.
For those who want to hunt with hounds drag hunts are not a bad alternative.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 12/07/2015 08:42

pinkfrocks that's just the sort of crap that mra's come out with if a feminist focuses on anything they deem not worthy.

Jealousy my ass. Control foxes all you like but if you need to dress up and make it a nice day out then you are a moron.

What a week, my best friend, single working mum, has just lost over a grand. This will push her and her child into poverty but that's okay because the tories have re defined child poverty which I'm sure her child will be thrilled about. Now, they want to bring back fox hunting.

Thank you tory voters. Ta. Very. Much.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 12/07/2015 08:47

As a wise man once said (my fil)

"If a fox gets yir chickens, yir no good at keepin' chickens"

I'm also not a townie, but that doesn't fit into the pro hunting narrative does it?

IhateMagic · 12/07/2015 08:58

Does the hunt do it for free though, keep the foxes population down? Because if we had to start paying people to do it like the badger cull, that would cost a fortune and probably be a shambles as well.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 12/07/2015 09:14

Let's not forget that when fox hunting was legal they were breeding foxes to hunt. Animal extermination should not be a sport and it's a fucked up person that thinks it is.

FlankShaftMcWap · 12/07/2015 10:15

I live in the country too. I am a farmer and yes I've lost lambs and hens to foxes, I know full well the devastation of finding discarded carcasses and I've had to euthanise stock that the fox has toyed with and left. I would still never allow the hunt on my land, despite their best efforts.
If I need to control fox numbers then I will do so myself, accurately and humanely thanks. I shoot for food and I raise my own meat at grass so you can keep your mass produced burgers cheers. As for lifestyle envy, well they're the ones desperate to get onto my land not the other way around.

People who say they've signed the petition since this thread has started, please could you link to whatever you have signed? Because the one in the OP definitely shows as a closed petition which you can't sign.

enderwoman · 12/07/2015 11:52

In an ideal world I would like to see urban foxes culled and countryside ones left alone.

MistressMerryWeather · 12/07/2015 13:53

Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't make them ignorant. It's the written equivalent of stomping your foot.

And you are not fooling anyone with the whole 'The nice doggies don't hurt the fox when they rip it apart! No, no! It's over too quickly'

I've read enough horror stories on MN alone (country folk, not ignorant townies Wink) to accept that nonsense.

I think Lumpy's FIL is on to something.
