Don't know if I am supposed to put petition links on here, but thought some of you lovely ladies would like to sign it.

Not clicking. What is it.

FreeLikeABird · 07/11/2014 15:56

What is it? I'm not clicking looks dodgy to me!

RJnomore · 07/11/2014 15:57

That is shocking, if it's true. I'll investigate and if it's right I'll sign.

Copied and pasted for those who don't want to click the link:

Subject: This mother deserves justice

Hi,

Have you seen this? A man severely beat a woman and her children and served only two years in prison. Meanwhile, Tondalo Hall, the woman who survived his abuse, is serving a 30-year sentence15 times the punishment of the man who abused herfor "failing to protect" her children from him. That's why I signed this petition. Can you add your name, too?

act.weareultraviolet.org/sign/tondalo_hall/?sp_ref=84600383.39.10420.e.40330.2&referring_akid=.907081.9pVJPH&source=sp_email

Thanks!

CharmQuark · 07/11/2014 16:00

Yup: don't click.

'Your action has been submitted'

What action would that be, OP?

I think you'd better explain.

RJnomore · 07/11/2014 16:01

Oh your link takes you to the wrong page btw

CharmQuark · 07/11/2014 16:02

OK, fair enough, but I am really really not happy with links to petitions that sign you up just by clicking on the link.

AuntieStella · 07/11/2014 16:08

I googled to try to find out more about the case. Do you have any good links, OP?

Because what I found was thus in which she pleads guilty to child abuse (of two children) as well as permitting Braxton to abuse.

I think he faced parallel charges (it was four counts each). So if there is a US equivalent of sentencing remarks somewhere, it might explain why the sentences varied so much.

RJnomore · 07/11/2014 16:13

Charm I don't think it did sign you up I think the op linked to the page after she had signed iyswim?

ilovelamp82 · 07/11/2014 16:18

Sorry, here's the link

act.weareultraviolet.org/sign/tondalo_hall/?sp_ref=84579246.39.10420.f.40332.2&referring_akid=1419.562479.VlAIX6&source=sp_fbook

I don't have any more information about it AuntieStella, I've just signed the petition based on the information provided, which I assume if it would do any good in the case of gaining clemency would need to be accurate.

Don't recognise the case (and won't click). Is this under English Judicial System?

It took place in Oklahoma in 2004

AbbieHoffmansAfro · 07/11/2014 16:39

It's all a bit knee jerk. What are the full facts of the case?

RJnomore · 07/11/2014 16:46

There isn't much online but I'd be interested to know more. The American judicial system DOES penalise women more harshly than men. There's another case where an abused wife tried to run out the door with her three year old and the man grabbed the child out of her arms, locked the door and murdered the child. A friend witnessed the whole thing.

He was charged with assaulting her as well as murder. I forget his sentence.

She was sentenced to 45 years for murder.

MyOneandYoni · 07/11/2014 17:31

I think it's really hard to have any influence on any judicial system outside of the EU.
We can click on online petitions and MAYBE make a difference within the country we live in, but the US wouldn't give a flying F* over us liberals belly-aching over their system. This is a country where they still routinely give the death penalty (in certain states) and as a nation refused to sign up to ratify the UN Rights of a Child.

This is probably a horrible case (still haven't clicked) but maybe our slacktivism is best used elsewhere?

CharmQuark · 07/11/2014 21:04

Thanks RJ.. I am super suspicious having discovered that a recent online petition (run by change. Org) and publicized all over FB by Lee Jasper gathered names from FB Accounts as soon as you clicked to see what it was Angry

RJnomore · 07/11/2014 21:08

Wow really?

That's not on.
