Whatever the outcome today, stand up for England and it's people. Being English is nothing to with race. It is a feeling of pride in the country. This is being trampled on. Stop it now!

I believe all countries of the Union should decide on their membership and take care of their own resources. I am pleased for the Scottish people and just want the same choices for everybody else.

Errr the English Parliment one closed 2 years ago...

seasavage · 18/09/2014 11:12

Err. Surely the point is there is nothing to be proud of? No country wants to be associated with England. For a reason.

Minikievs · 18/09/2014 11:14

seasavage I find that incredibly rude

seasavage · 18/09/2014 11:19

Well? Find it rude? Why are you offended that I, as an English person am seethingly embarrassed to have been born in this country? Full of people who think it's grossly unfair that money should be spread around a country as NEEDED?

SauvignonBlanche · 18/09/2014 11:19

YABU this should be in Pet ions and On-line Campaigns.

Minikievs · 18/09/2014 11:24

In which case you should have said that's how YOU feel, rather than no country wants to be associated with England.
I too am embarassed by some of the things that go on in this country and by some (most) of the people that live here, but I am still proud to be English on the whole and get very defensive over sweeping "It's shit" statements

seasavage · 18/09/2014 11:26

I'm not proud to be English. There is no national English identity I am aware of? You can find it rude, and be hurt. But that is my opinion. I don't expect you to change yours?

Minikievs · 18/09/2014 11:33

Agreed. I don't expect you to change your opinion, of course not. The same way I won't change mine (yet) I was merely pointing out that the way it was expressed came across as rude. IMO. But perhaps I'm being sensitive as I do get quite touchy about England bashing.

OfaFrenchMind · 18/09/2014 11:38

You should be proud to be English. You were steadfast during the wars, have a great History with legendary Kings, Queens, and great Victories. You have Fashion, technologies, a beautiful countryside, a lovely seaside, a reputation of manners and civility, and a beautiful language.
As a French person, English people I had contact with were either lovely or normal (not rude, gross, or terrifying).
Your traditional food is nothing to rave about but is honorable :), however your pubs are superior to bars.

In the end, it's always easier to publicly critisize England, as you are the figurehead of GB, and historically, the winner. And in my experience, you have a large tendancy to be self-depreciating to the excess. Don't sell youself short, English people!
