My lovely friends lost their much wanted baby boy at almost 34 weeks recently due to a placental abruption caused by a blood clot. His death, like up to a third of stillbirths, could potentially have been prevented.

The stillbirth rate in the uk hasn't improved since the 90's, and is one of the worst in the western world. Please sign the petition linked below so we can try and get this addressed.

My friends are heartbroken, and we as their friends are in pieces for them. I only hope I never experience this first hand, as helping them through it has been one of the hardest things I've done.

If this petition passes, and saves other families this pain, it would be amazing.

Done. I have suffered stillbirths myself and wouldn't want any one to have to go through it.

Abruptions, however, can rarely be prevented and are not caused by blood clots. Just wanted to clarify this.

mrspatrick Her consultant has stated the abruption (a silent one) was caused by a massive bloodclot. It caused the placenta to detach prematurely.

I'm adding to this thread because someone in my family also tragically lost her first baby at term last year and is involved in the group that started the petition. They are trying to keep momentum going to ensure the House of Commons debate takes place and also say "we are now aware that the Office of National Statistics are no longer planning to publish the statistics regarding stillbirth and neonatal death in a bid to cut costs. The UK is in no position to be unaware of its baby loss statistics and if there is a significant deterioration in the already poor numbers who will know..... We are now also fighting for this to be reinstated."
