the hospital i work at is being closed it is a small hospital in dartmoor so can i get everyone who lives near moretonhampstead to get onto facebook and follow the link to the petition site (it comes under save moretonhampstead hospital) or all of you PLEASE PLEASE help

Erm...it's only closing to in patients for 3 months so the staff can receive proper training isn't it?

Or have I got the wrong hospital?

A Devon community hospital is to temporarily close to inpatients following a report criticising staff training.

The decision to close Moretonhampstead Community Hospital was made by the hospital's trust following a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection.

The trust said Moretonhampstead would close at the end of January for three months.

All clinics and outpatient sessions would continue as normal, it added.

So what's with the big Facebook drama??

that is what "THEY" are telling you .but the truth is is that "THEY" have been wanting to shut us for ages ."THEY" shut Lynton hospital "temporarily" about ten years ago but that has never reopened .It was arranged that all nursing staff rotate to a larger hospital to update skills etc ,the rotas were laid down for this to happen and nursing staff from the larger hospital were due to take over and run our hospital .So everything was in place for this training to take place but "THEY" still closed us .We as a staff team envisage the hospital never opening again

Sounds like a Facebook mountain is being made out of a molehill here.

I'm baffled, it says there are only 8 in patients at the moment anyway...and they won't be accepting any more for 3 months so the staff can get proper training?

X posted with you OP but I suggest you'll get more support if and when the mysterious "they" actually announce a permanent closure.

Can you give 'them' the benefit of the doubt and campaign in a few months if it doesn't reopen. Seems pointless to whip up a campaign about staff being properly trained

We have nine beds and are a reablement hospital . A lot of our patients have very complex needs and need careful appropriate placements or rehab before going home. We have a reputation for excellent care . The thing is once we are closed for inpatient beds then the building becomes unworkable really. We only run three clinics a week and our minor injury unit has been closed "temporarily" for over six months now .So where is our future without our inpatients. As I said the training issue had already been sorted with us being rotated to the other hospital

It sounds like you do wonderful work but is nine beds viable? Isn't it better to have the unit within a larger hospital.

it is at least half an hours drive to the other unit given the recent weather we were desparately needed and many of our visitors do not drive and public transport is appalling so it is not vialble to go elsewhere

I think this is very unprofessional of you OP. The Trust has said the unit is shutting for three months. Why are you scaremongering? The CQC are much criticised but they have no axe to grind with units carrying out safe practice. Sounds like your unit is too small for you all to be appropriately updated on skills tbh. I know rehab beds have value but I suspect this unit is actually are too small to be safe OR economic tbh. Why should a larger hospital lose their trained staff so you can all get a refresher? I'm very about this thread.

I hate to say this but half an hours travel is very viable no matter what way you look at it and most public transport is bad at times but we manage.

Hopefully you'll all get your training and they'll re-open the in patients bit but if they don't, well I can kind of see why using the other hospital seems like a fair enough option.

In addition to public transport, patient ambulance transport should be available for eligible patients attending a service.

CQC don't close places for fun, they've obviously decided the issue is serious enough to temporarily close the unit?
