They are ever so nice but I just noticed the random usage of the apostrophe on their card. why does nobody ever proof-read these things?

YANBU

I bet they do proof read them but too many people don't get taught any grammar these days or simply don't get it especially when a 'y' becomes an 'ies'

In the past I would have blamed sign writers or printers for many of the errors, but the sign writers most probably worked from details supplied to them.

In the case of printers, at least in some cases, I think that it may have been a "combined effort" because a printer might have taken details down from a phone call, supplied a proof, which was "approved" by some office junior, rather than a partner in a firm, and then hundreds of pounds might have been wasted because of some trivial error(s).

Now, with online services, I would expect many more business cards to have been "created" online by the {self employed} card holder, and therefore it will be solely their fault.
