Does anyone feel a sense of disappointment?

When they become FB friends with someone they're already RL friends with them but not seen they're writing style, only to read hideous txt spk status updates with awful punctuation?

Or is it just me?

Do you mean 'their' writing style?

FlamingoBingo · 29/01/2010 16:02

Hahaha What a stupid mistake!

Thankfully, I am fairly tolerant of rushed typing/thinking mistakes. It's the 'wot did u say, sis? thx 4 last nite btw' that is so disappointing to read.

yes, especially a student I had otherwise considered intelligent and articulate. I suppose they can switch it on and off at will .

Alicetheinvisible · 29/01/2010 16:14

Drives me mad! I don't bother reading their updates as i can't bloody understand them anyway

mrsjuan · 29/01/2010 16:16

Yes. It really puts me off. I don't even use text speak in text messages though.

nickelbabe · 29/01/2010 16:19

my sister drives me mad, because most of what she writes has no punctuation (apart from a ?! at the end) so i have no idea what she's going on about!
it takes me ages to decifer (oh, i can't bloody spell that word!!!) what she's written.
and her grammar is appalling. she doesn't know the difference between your/you're and they're/there/their, so it's painful to read, too.

cattj · 30/01/2010 00:27

Is the shift key broken on your computer?

ShowOfHands · 30/01/2010 00:38

The poor grammar is at least entertaining. Shall I tell you what isn't entertaining?

Just hanging the washing out lol

Been to the shops lol

Ironing done lol

I have a couple of friends who seem to be cackling madly at the inanity of their lives.

usualsuspect · 30/01/2010 00:42

Its facebook ,not a bloody A level so no I couldn't give a monkeys really

nickelbabe · 30/01/2010 14:47

catt: was that to me?

i always miss out capitals: i don't know why, but it's become a habit!
(i think it's supposed to look more informal, but it's a bit childish now, isn't it?

NonVinaigretteRien · 30/01/2010 14:51

Not disappointment as such, today I was feeling sorry for the parents of a girl I was friends with at primary school.

They put so much effort and money into getting her a "better" secondary education than the state one I received.

And now, yes, it's all "hun" and "lol".

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 30/01/2010 14:51

''Is so fuckin fucked y dosn anythin eva go rite 4 me dnt i derserve sum luck instead i have bad luck nearly evryday of my life wish i cud jst start agin Ths fuckin shithole i live in n im so fed up bein ere i bought a new washer n ryan layed sum laminayte dwn in kitchen n washer has jst flooded it again so now were goin 2 have 2 take all floorin up again 2 get 2 water"

Try to top trump that - a friends best friend from uni posted this, she got a 1st class degree, so why!?.

NonVinaigretteRien · 30/01/2010 14:53

Oooh, DWP, actually that sounds a bit disturbing!!!

NonVinaigretteRien · 30/01/2010 14:55

See, i'm guessing that's actually posted from a phone with no word thingy predictor whatsit on it.

Surely that's the only excuse? it's surely more difficult to type like that?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 30/01/2010 14:58

what puzzles me most is the few correctly spelled words.....

bruceb · 07/02/2010 16:00

Such as?

I can only see 'shithole', 'luck', 'kitchen' and 'washer'.

Ok that is four, although shithole should perhaps be hyphenated....
