Next Thursday?

When someone says they will do x next xday when do you expect that?

EG if someone said on 25th (mon) to meet you next Thursday would you expect that today or next week?

Next week. Today would have been this Thursday

My mum however would have said that today is next Thursday which drives me mad anbd causes confusion!

See I thought that next Thursday would be today (the next thursday) didn't think of it as opposed to this Thursday, I would have thought next Thursday would have been Thursday week? Oh well know for next time
