Pedants' corner

Would it be very pedantic of me to reply to this school/PTA email highlighting this <ahem> word confusion?

"you can also visit the new PTA website to find out what you?re fantastic PTA is doing to support XXXX School"

i don't think it would be, but i'm a pedant, so....

you don't have to tell them, just highlight it with a yellow highlighter pen...

MadreInglese · 26/01/2010 11:26

well that was an apostrophe but somehow is now a question mark

I wonder how you'd react to half the letters we get sent home? They drive me insane and i'm no pedant.

Don't people realise that errors like that on 'official' mail outs just make them look like numpties?

(yes yes I know it's not a big sin in the grand scheme of things but it drives me maaaaaaaad)

it is a big sin, though.
i know they're not teachers, but they represent an educational establishment, so their letters and official forms should be correct.

I'm itching to write a reply

you could put "i'm glad to know about my're PTA and ....."

WingedVictory · 20/02/2010 10:06

Ha ha, I read it initially as PITA. It's a shame your text has to be perfect to point out their "typo", as it would be soooo cool to slip the extra I into PTA.

As a teacher, I am itching to correct our PTA's mailouts. But I know it would offend them, and it is hard enough to get willing volunteers to run the PTA as it is. So I wince and turn a blind eye. The Head's letters are a different kettle of fish entirely....

Skegness · 20/02/2010 10:28

It's a bad error but correction of this sort is extremely rude, I'm afraid.
