I see this word more and more often. Surely it is addictive and not addicting? It sets my teeth on edge....

I know that you posted this a while ago but I was going to start the same thread and thought I'd check the archives to see if it had already been covered and found this so ...

I totally agree.
I don't understand a) where it came from or b) why on Earth anyone thought it was a necessary addition to English as we already have 'addictive'.

I hate it!

SantaClaragirl · 25/01/2010 05:24

Glad it's not just me!

MumofOscar · 25/01/2010 14:39

Sooo glad i just stumbled across this! I was genuinely started to think it was only me that thought this was a made up word. Everybody seems to just accept it and its wrong! It keeps popping up on FB. I blame America.

*genuinely starting not started. Need an edit button.

Wow - I've never even heard this word but how annoying!!
Will be listening out for it now!

TigersChick · 26/01/2010 10:14

sasamaxx - It is usually used to describe things like games; phrases like

"Try the new seriously addicting game from XYZ Games!!!!!!!!!!"

Tis very annoying!

sasamaxx · 26/01/2010 16:59

oh FGS why???
v annoying

SantaClaragirl · 27/01/2010 04:45

Yes, definitely found in reviews of games, apps on the iphone, Facebook etc and I blame America too . I had to look it up in the dictionary in case I was the one in the wrong.

CarmenSanDiego · 27/01/2010 05:15

Wow, I was just about to rant about this earlier today. It's infuriating isn't it?

loopylou2 · 29/01/2010 20:19

I work with addicts and of all the strange words I have heard, addicting is not one of them- I think I've heard it maybe once in 3 years...?
