loose v. lose

Agh!

Sorry, just want to rant about people "loosing" their socks instead of losing them. Are the socks going to rampage around the city or something? The two words sound completely different and it gets on my wick.

Sign at my local petrol station "Lock it, don't loose it". I haven't got a marker pen to it, but I cringe every time I go in there.
