The annoying over usage of 'p' as a vocal shortening of the much nicer word that is 'pence'

It must be the wine I'm drinking, but I am getting thoroughly fed up with 'the media' (well, TV adverts mainly) that always quote prices in a manner such as: 'grapes, 49 p(ee), coconuts, 49 p(ee), apples, 49 p(ee), arse flutes, 49 p(ee)', etc.

What is wrong with saying 'pence' on the odd occasion I ask ? It certainly sounds a lot better.

Even worse is pence when they actually mean penny.

Press the mute button and provide your own, alternative commentary for the adverts. Works well with a bottle of wine

Related topic: I hate the ads that tell you the price but fail to mention what quantity you get for that money...

Of course,in the old days we didn't have to faff about with either of these - didn't people originally say 'p' to distinguish new post decimalisation money from the old money(d) they were used to? And now it's stuck?
