"Summit" is not a verb......

On "Today" this morning a reporter said that Sir Ranulph Fiennes had "summited" (summitted?)Everest early this morning.

No, not reached the summit, but "summitted". Another one to add to my nouns-as-verbs hate list.

And on R4! On Today! Gr!

Just put it in the same drawer as medal - as in 'the bog snorkelling team are aiming to medal at the 2012 Olympics'.

God, if I hear that expression much more.Only another 3 years to go, by which time I will be a certifiable heckler.
