Am I right? Do I win a prize?

Doodle2U · 29/03/2009 20:40

Apparently!

There are some pretty obvious spelling and grammar errors....is, I think, the correct way to write it but I'd say it has "there's". Is that grammatically incorrect or OK?

There are some pretty obvious spelling and grammatical errors.

Not "there is" (there's) because you are listing more than one thing - the spelling and the grammar. Just as you wouldn't say "There is a sheep and a cow in the field", you'd say "There are...".

Mummyfor3 · 29/03/2009 20:44

No prize then ?

I'd maybe say "there's" as well, but am not an officially recognized pedant.
Pedantically, it is WRONG!!

Doodle2U · 29/03/2009 21:04

Damn - I was hoping someone would say "...but it's OK, Doodle. It's acceptable through usage!" or summat like that.

Right, i appear to got myself into a row on another message board, hence, this thread. I shall now start another thread on here, asking for ammunition!
