I have just seen a dirty great sign in my local M&S for 'Cami's'.

This is quite wrong, non?

No - short for camiknickers, thus fine.

elsiepiddock · 13/03/2009 13:26

But bras is short for brassieres, why not apostrophe there?

No not fine - it's a plural, and 'cami' is accepted as a word in its own right through familiarity of use.
Wrong wrong wrong.

Nontoxic · 13/03/2009 13:31

Good point re. bras - I couldn't think of a similar example.

elsiepiddock · 13/03/2009 13:35

Thanks Nontoxic, I KNEW I was right

Similarly, thank's is incorrect and I have already complained to M&S about some of their cards being printed with that.

It's so depressing but more and more familiar. Who do you complain to?

Lindenlass · 13/03/2009 13:48

Do their cards really say 'thank's'??? That's apalling!

sassy · 13/03/2009 15:48

Or even appalling, lindenlass

Actually, thank's is a disgrace.

elsiepiddock · 13/03/2009 16:33

YES!! Their little packs of thank you cards - aimed at children.

I complained to them about that one, as even my 6yr old ds noticed it (comes of having a pedant as a mum).

rofl - I did it! I did a typo in pedants' corner! Better than typing apauling, which is my personal bugbear!
