Need to write an evaluation of the above. Handbook says practise- is it correct?

practise is verb, practice is noun afair, so handbook is right.

mileniwmffalcon · 10/03/2009 11:28

awaits correction...

baskingshark · 10/03/2009 11:29

i think[but not experienced pedant mind] that practice is the noun and practise is the verb so yes "fitness to practise".

Tommy · 10/03/2009 11:29

that's right.
It's the same as "advice" and "advise" which is easier to remember

Aniyan · 10/03/2009 11:30

Practise is verb - I find it helpful to think of it like the difference between advice and advise - the noun (advice / practice) has a c, the verb (advise, practise) has an s.

and basking shark and Tommy and Aniyan. That's good advice(!) re thinking of Advice/Advise. Find it much easier to grasp that distinction, for some reason.

great minds

Oh I was just thinking about this. I know that a legal practice, for example, has a second C. But I always used to get confused about how it applies to e.g. music.
"I am practising..." has an S, fair enough - but what about "I am doing my violin practice/se"? Does that still get a C because of being a noun, or is the rule different there - anyone know?

KatyMac · 14/03/2009 09:40

What about

Displaying 'Best Practise' or is it C?

KatyMac · 14/03/2009 10:34

bump

upagumtree · 18/03/2009 23:32

By no means am I a pedant, but I would think it should be "Best Practice"

CompareTheMeerkat · 18/03/2009 23:33

Displaying best practice.

I find it helps to think of advise and advice - you wouldn't say displaying best advise so you don't say displaying best practise either.
