People who refer to their DC's "one year birthday" etc

Grr this is really annoying me. Seems to be only American parents who do it, so perhaps just a language issue, but annoying, how many birthdays do their DCs have FFS?

I guess it's to distinguish it from their 'birth day' as in the day they were born. But it's silly I agree.

I think I'm going to start having an official birthday soon so I have an excuse to wear a silly hat more often.

What's a DC ffs - a Daniel Cleaver? District of Colombia? Why can't they say my son's birthday or my daughter's birthday without being so naff?
