Our headteacher used to misuse the apostrophe regularly, mostly when using a possessive "its". I told him every single time (it kept appearing in letters to parents, fgs), and eventually I resorted to teaching it specifically in a staff training session under the guise of a new literacy strategy. It cured the problem! Now, however, he constantly misspells words like 'liaise' (liase) and recently used a greengrocer's apostrophe in 'tomatoes' in a letter to parents about the KS1 fruit scheme. Arrghhh!

I worked with a teacher who always used the wrong spelling.

She would correct homework with "you're presentation could be better" etc

Lia[i]se is a famous glitch, though, isn't it? - in that if you write "liaise" the Microsoft spell-checker corrects it to to "liase" - which I'd refuse since I am confident in using "liaise"; but if you weren't confident (and it sounds as if your HT isn't confident) you'd (a) leave it as "liase" and (b) think that "liaise" is actually wrong, so not use it even when spell-checker not involved.

I would either do what chooseyfloosey says or I'd spend about a day thinking of a witty reposte to one particular instance - one that used "my" to show up the ridiculousness of the original "your". I'd probably fail as I'm not very good at witty repostes so I'd just revert to chewing
