WHY?

can someone explain why people feel the need to spell rofl like this? i only ever see it here and for some bizarre reason it makes me really cross. possibly cos rofl is a lovely little "word" it feels perfectly formed to me, it's perfectly pronounceable etc. (unlike other nettisms e.g. lmao). it just strikes me as utterly unnecessarily twee.

I like Roffle

I have caught myself using them in RL out loud though which is very embarrassing. Have often said "my Dee Aitch..." and "Loll". Not easy to explain away and creates a reasonably awkward moment while you see people around you trying to work out what word they misheard..

I like roffle. Sounds like a charmingly obscure old-fashioned verb. Like goffering or some such.

rofl isn't a word merely a collection of letters, roffle is a proper word IMO.
