Please sign in here if you do. I think people who use it should be shot.

" Christmas. Cf. CRIMBLE n. Also used in interjections: cf. CHRISTMAS n. 1c.

1928 Strand Mag. July 70/1 306 You've saved your man, by crimbo. 1966 P. MOLONEY Plea for Mersey 63 Dick Crimbo = St. Nicholas. 1989 Looks Dec. 5 Worth cancelling a crimbo party to catch this one, it's totally fab. 2001 GQ Nov. 122/2 A crisp £20 handed to the dustman just before Crimbo may seem like sheer profligacy."

" Christmas. Cf. CRIMBO n.

1963 J. LENNON in Beatles Fan Club Recording in New Musical Express 6 Dec. 10/2 Garry Crimble to you, Garry Crimble to you, Garry Bable, Dear Christmas, Happy Birthday, me too! 1987 Just Seventeen 16 Dec. 6/2 Stevie's determined to have a well-wacky Crimble do. 1994 Sun Zoom Spark Dec. 22/3 Couldn't we just shut him in the attic and let him out for 12 days around Crimble along with the baubles and tinsel. 2002 Observer 6 Jan. (Business section) 7/8 As..only 300 digital radio sets were in the shops this Crimble, the company's performance on the stock market shouldn't really be a surprise."

And Rhubs, the OED kind of disagrees with you:

Forms: 19- Chrimbo, Crimbo. Also with lower-case initial.

So?
It's still horrid.

CliffRichardSucksEggsInHell · 16/12/2008 14:48

Well how very dare the OED disagree with me! DO THEY KNOW WHO I AM?????????????

Penthesileia · 16/12/2008 14:49

I heart Habbibu for the research; still dislike Crimbo. What, what.

Habbibu · 16/12/2008 14:49

Oh come on, UQD, if you can't be pedantic (i.e. drag in the OED) in pedants' corner, where can you?

I hate it too, and if I was 90 I'd have hated it since 1928.

Habbibu · 16/12/2008 14:50

Pen, all that public money going to Universities has to be of some use, non?

Penthesileia · 16/12/2008 14:51

No! We are filthy scroungers, wringing the hard-working taxpayer dry in our ivory towers. We should be out there, earning £50k+!

Scrubbers.

SixSpotBurnet · 16/12/2008 14:52

Scrubbers?

Habbibu · 16/12/2008 14:53

That's not including onebat, who never scrubs. Apparently. Although I think she may not work in the Ivory Towers.

Penthesileia · 16/12/2008 14:54

Dunno. Just like it. Doesn't Withnail bellow it out the car window at some girls?

Swedes · 16/12/2008 14:56

I think people who break into French mid-sentence should be shot? No?

Habbibu · 16/12/2008 14:57

what about people who do it at the end of sentences, Swedes? Hanging too good for them, I'll warrant.

Penthesileia · 16/12/2008 14:58

T'was the end of the sentence [pedant].

Habbibu · 16/12/2008 14:58

Pedant chi-posts!

Penthesileia · 16/12/2008 14:58

LOL - x-post. Smart Alecs, we.

Threadworrm · 16/12/2008 14:59

I think the lecturers' rate of pay only wrings the taxpayer moist, niet?

Penthesileia · 16/12/2008 14:59

And again!

Swedes · 16/12/2008 15:00

LOL at you both. Fair cop.

Habbibu · 16/12/2008 15:00

it just waves them out of the window and shakes off a couple of drops, thready.

Penthesileia · 16/12/2008 15:00

Moist is a filthy word. Shame on you.

Swedes · 16/12/2008 15:03

I'm not keen on the word moist. It makes me feel anxious.

onebatmotherofgoditschilly · 16/12/2008 15:05

[gran]
[groan]

Suedoise! Je suis bouleversée!

Threadworrm · 16/12/2008 15:05

I am very happy with moist. I think it is because I am in love with houseplants and moist is a good state of soil for them on the whole.

Swedes · 16/12/2008 15:05

I don't like the word lactating. It's so difficult.

onebatmotherofgoditschilly · 16/12/2008 15:06

I am moist between the hams, much of the time.
