OK, todays competition, can anyone beat this Christmas sign -

among the many "Xmas tree's for sale" and "Log's" I have seen around here this one in particular I find amusing and annoying in equal measure

"Holly Reaves for sale"

who on earth IS she??

I've seen Holly Reefs.

loobeylou · 15/12/2008 15:36

Holly Reef, cousin of Coral Reef no doubt!

Just as good!

oh my God!! Actually, I think it's a rule that people who write sighs outside shops/stalls put in extra apostrophes.

My Mum saw 'Peasant Soup' on a chalk board outside a restaurant!

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 15/12/2008 15:40

Sorry, that should be signs! Who am I to criticise anybody

sazzerbear · 15/12/2008 15:44

On a sligh tangent - "Nest Box's for Sale!" WTF!

sazzerbear · 15/12/2008 15:44

oops I meant slight - no attention to detail!

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 15/12/2008 15:45

can I add the sign for OBOS in the greengrocers ? (have posted before about this one)

peasoup · 15/12/2008 15:45

Totally off the subject I've just remembered a "Laundry Mat" sign that wasn't even joking!

loobeylou · 15/12/2008 15:55

? peasoup ?

OP posts:
christMAScomesbutonceayear · 15/12/2008 16:12

laundromat loobeylou

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 15/12/2008 16:13

or is it laundramat ?

Threadworrm · 15/12/2008 20:04

I noticed 'Festive Reaths' yesterday.

peasoup · 15/12/2008 20:06

OMG, I just had a horrid feeling seeing your post, Loobeylou that Laundry Mat was the correct spelling and I've shown myself up disgracefully in my first ever visit to Pedants corner!

MrsSeanBean · 16/12/2008 09:59

Anyone for 'Free leisure pass'es'?

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 16/12/2008 10:00

pass'es !! excellent.
When I was at primary school I used to put an apostrophe before the last S of my surname

MrsSeanBean · 16/12/2008 10:08

Talk of 'reefs' reminds me of something on another post read on mis-spelt baby names. Someone knew of a chap in his 40s called 'Keef'!!! That takes the biscuit for me I think (and shows that the decline in standards is not a new phenomenon). Poor man!

loobeylou · 16/12/2008 17:56

sorry to scare you peasoup !

just never heard of laundromat or whatever so did not get Laundry Mat(assume it is same as laundrette?)

perhaps the person who owns the place you cn wash your clothes is called Mat, hence Laundry Mat?
