have you gone feckin' mad FAQ?

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 15/12/2008 12:56

well in most of the Carol Books and Hymn books I have (and I still own over 30 different ones ) it's printed as Nowell - even the older ones - yet I often see it written as Noel.

Oxford University Press have it as Nowell in their "5 Carols" book too.

actually I've just googled - it was originally written with the Anglo-Saxon "Nowell" - but was later changed to the french "Noel".

I've never seen it as Nowell but that's not to say it's wrong. I always thought it was Noël.

nope - have just googled further to back up what I already thought. It's proper, original title is Nowell.

Some crap CD performances may have it as Noel, but any of the decent ones are all Nowell. As are the decent editions of the sheet music you can buy.
