The letters we get from nursery - and a lot of the notices on the walls there - are often littered with errors, which I try to benignly ignore on the basis that it won't do dd any harm, but I had to share this one.

"The nursery will be closed on Friday 21 November for an Insect Day."

Hmm, I thought, are they getting pest control in to deal with some cockroaches?

...No, it's an inset day.

That's brilliant. I'll never be able to hear of inset days again without imagining all the teachers setting off with jam jars and magnifying glasses, going on a jolly bug hunt.

DS#2 always insists it's Insect Day anyway so now I know he's right!

GrimmaTheNome · 17/11/2008 11:55

At least it didn't turn out to be a sinister "In Sect day"

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 17/11/2008 11:57

I thought that they were called Insect Days when I first heard of them

In my defence, DS isn't school age yet, i heard my sister talking about one and misheard.

weird name, anyway!

stealthsquiggle · 17/11/2008 11:57

Perhaps you should turn up with DD dressed as a ladybird ?

What is it about 21 November - the entire country seems to have picked that as their inset day?!

RustyBear · 17/11/2008 11:57

Better than the "Incest Day" someone's DD recently reported her teachers were having....

mrsbabookaloo · 17/11/2008 12:03

Incest day!!

my ds thought it was insect day - and they were allowed home so that they could get rid of all the insects in school.

awww...that was when he was cute..

SoupDragon · 17/11/2008 12:04

DS1 used to call them Bugs Days because he thought it was insect day.
